As our society is going through very challenges situation families of children with disabilities are facing difficulties for their survival. The need for helping hand for their survival is so huge and bigger and bigger daily as the country general situation is worsen.
News of Eden Centre (2023)
After two years of closing our Day Care Centre we are now re-opened since June, 2023 and operating with full strength. Currently more than 250 children with disabilities are registered as regular day care students. To accommodate more needy children in our Day Care Centre ECDC has two shift school, morning shift and afternoon shift and also two group, those who come two days per week and three days per week.
Our main services are Special Education service, Conductive Education service, Rehabilitation services and social care service including counselling service for parents. Family Based education (FBE) is one of our renovated new approaches after covid-19 pandemic period, started since the year 2022, to reach out more families around the country.
Conductive Education expert, Saya WU from Naning Conductive Education Centre, China visit Eden Centre from 14 August, 2023 to 18 August, 2023. During his visit he provide training, sharing and close supervision of education service provision of the Centre.
Eden Centre is not only service provision Centre but also disability related training and resource Centre as well. ECDC has conducted 7th batch ‘Disability Studies Certificate Course (DSCC)’, virtual training, from 18 August, 2023 to 16 September 2023. 6th batch was already conducted in February, 2023 and ECDC is offering this course regularly to equip community worker with disability knowledge. Disseminating ‘Social Model of Disability’ and making disability related resources available is our priority as the organization.
Eden Inclusive Nursery School was officially open in May, 2023 at ‘Centre for Disability in Development (CDD)’, Myaungdaka, Hmawbi Township as a model. Experienced special education teachers are assigned to run that school. There are both children with disabilities and non-children with disabilities learn together. This is introducing ‘Inclusive Education’ in early child care sector in our community as a model.
In 17th September, 2023 Eden’s fundraising activities, Lucky Draw, was launched. This is one of our planned one fundraising activities. We have another two planned activities in this year. In this activities Eden’s family staff, parents of student with disabilities, volunteer and donors are collaborating throughout the process.
Eden Centre for Disabled Children (ECDC) is now successfully finished “Family Based Education (FBE)” one year pilot project. As it is a renovation of ECDC we will continuously learning by doing until it is concretely package as a new approach to support family members of children with disabilities around the country. Through this approach geographical distance can be eliminated to reach out and support family of children with disabilities.
